This is far from a gimme. I think we have the toughest run in, but you gotta believe people, as somebody round here has it.

Hard work ahead, this tie included. Look what they did to the Barcodes. |

Another tough game but they're all tough... simple matter is that if we don't lose against the bin dippers we can still afford to drop a draw in this game as long as we win the rest. I'm not running scared of the Saints though and I think we'll win but not by a big margin as they're a good team. I'm relying on MP getting his tactics right and for our miserly defence (only one goal conceded in last 6 in the league) to see us through.

This is far from a gimme. I agree Eddie, but I don't think we have the toughest run in. We do have a tough one which is important to our title cause, but Sunderland in their quest to avoid relegation have, Spurs Everton Man City Chelsea Cardiff Man U. West Brom Swansea
Good luck with that!
Best duo where? Oh! Negredo, Aguero!! |

Mike you're right. Have to confess I was only looking at potential champions' running, but as Sunderland are pretty much down now anyway, they can enjoy the rest of the season and perhaps scare a few bigger fish. They'll be back better than ever with Poyet after one season n the Championship. |

I wouldn't have known Sunderland's run in had I not watched the Black Cats-West Ham game Monday where the announcer mentioned Sunderland's dire state. Sunderland only looked good after they brought on Adam Johnson in the second half and scored right away. Commentators were up one side, down the other on Poyet for getting his tactics wrong and not starting Adam, their best player in such an important game.

Back on topic, Is this year a case of who wins out, us or Liverpool are the champs? Or is it a case of like two years ago where the top teams still have little stumbles and the final points total may be less than expected? This game is a potential stumbler for us if we (our players) take it for granted, we can't afford anymore of those games.

1-1 on 38 minutes and yup, it's one of those games. dzecko misses an easy header to go two up from trying to hit it too hard from 4 yds out, then they come straight back and win a penalty. they can easily string fifteen passes together and we can't manage three. we are second best 70% of this half so far.

Well we were able to string three passes together a couple of times in first half stoppage time and score a couple against the run of play, and one of those was probably off side, 3-1 for the good guys at the break.

Survived 1st half, thrived in the 2nd. As long as all are fit for next weekend, the deal maker. Just wanted Negredo to get one of his chances.... |

Job done in some comfort in the end. Looks like a bad injury to Rodriguez which is a shame, hope it's not too bad and he recovers in time for the world cup as he ought to be in the squad.
Whilst Saints were better than us for about half an hour in this game, they didn't work our goalkeeper and I got really fed up with the commentary team (Michael Owen in particular as usual... what a completely biased offering which we have come to expect but he just bores you to death as well.... I hope BT Sport can come up with someone a little more interesting next season). Anyway, YES... our second goal was offside but it did not belie the fact that by that time and for the rest of the match, we completely dominated a shaky Southampton side. The former city players (pundits).. James, McManaman and Hargreaves restored the bias somewhat.
Basically, 4-1 is a comprehensive beating in anyones' book and we would have won this game regardless of that second goal as we constantly created lots of chances and they didn't. Their manager had a lot of sour grapes after the game as well which the BT producers seemed to concentrate on (just listen to the incredibly leading questions). I blimmin hate BT Sport - their owners must all be rags.
In all, a decent performance in the end and we can go into the Liverpool game with confidence.

ya the second half was better possession wise but our passing and finishing were still very poor and if three pts. is enough in spite of that to give the lads confidence then so be it, but if the 'Pool boys were watching they will be just as confident after watching our effort.
