Posted - 16/05/2016 : 12:11:43 Given the impending regime change who should stay and who should go?
GK: Hart is a clear stay. Caballero did brilliantly in the Capital One Cup Final but has never really pushed Hart the way he needs, but the challenge with keeprs is to find one who would be happy taking the chance. Overall a stay because I don't think we'd get a better option.
Full backs: probably wholesale change here: Zaba has been an amazing player but age has caught up with his style of play. Sagna has had a great season, following an indifferent one last season. Maybe keep for continuity, but surely must be an occasional player. Clichy, again only keep as a squad player, left back has been an area where we need to improve. Cannot remember the last top drawer left back we had. Kolarov, should have gone last season, cost us too many points this season, teh good no longer outweighs the bad.
Centre backs: 6 weeks ago I'd have been for wholesale changes here however: Kompany - keep as he is talismanic for the club and the team, but must be sued more sparingly. Otamendi is definitely a keepr, but needs to stay on his feet more to improve. Mangala has improved beyond recognition in the last few weeks, but is still prone to make costly errors - the new Joleon Lescott anyone? Would give him another season, but be ready to swap in January. What about bringing Aredabaiyo into the squad - looked good against Chelsea in the FA CUp.
Midfield: Yaya - go, with fond memories and best wishes. Fernandinho - keep and make the lynchpin Fernando - decent, but not a game changer, and still too many mistakes. Let him go for a good offer. Navas - I know everybody likes having a pop, but I love his work rate. What about dropping him back to full back? His pace is fantastic, and his defensive efforts can be outstanding. Silva - cannot believe that we are even discussing his place in the team, but KDB has dropped into that slot effortlessly and produced regularly when it matters. However, I'd still keep him because we should be challenging properly on 4 fronts next year, and his undertsanding with Aguero is special. Delph - hasn't done much wrong, and always steadies the ship when needed, but not given enough runouts to prove what his value is. Would keep if we lose Fernando. KDB - the future. Sterling - striker or wide midfielder? Too lightweight for me, goes missing when he should be standing up. Reckon he gets a season to prove himself, but otherwise needs to ship out. Aguero - never even in question. Would definitely think about bringing Roberts back from Celtic. |

As for ambition... 42 points as usual to virtually guarantee survival and bragging rights over that lot down the road will do me just fine.
Oh, and England to win the Euros :-)

Posted - 27/05/2016 : 15:00:17 Hey Tim, glad to see you still around and popping up. Hoping we can revive this site as the centre for reasoned engagement it used to be.
I have a bit of sympathy for Bony, never got why we bought him as his style and ours never meshed, nor were they ever going to.
Main objective for next year is to finish above the rabble - how's that for limited ambition? :-D |

Good post, good to be back....
I agree with most of your comments but have made some obs below
Goalkeepers : Agree Hart should stay and is our No.1 however, we need to bring someone else in as well (I think a young understudy would be fine here, someone who is comfy with the ball at his feet as this is the way things are going with the goalies nowadays)
Defenders :
Full backs - I'd like to keep Zabaleta and would get rid of Sagna. We need a bit more youth at full back.
Middies : I'd get rid of Fernando, YaYa (or stick him at CB?!), Delph (He's not done it for me by any stretch. Looked good in an England shirt before joining us but he gives the ball away too cheaply from what I've seen).
Forwards : Bony has to go, he's not really impressed me at all but then he's up against class competition for a place in the team.
I think the likes of Sterling need to see how they get on under the new manager. He's got the potential to be exceptional but seems to have done what a lot of English players do, which is peak at 18 and not push on from there. He should be a match winner/game changer but is still only young.
It will be interesting to see who the new manager bins and who he brings in. I actually don't think we will win the title next season. We'll need a drastic improvement if we are to win it. I think our European adventure sets us in good stead for next season as well - providing we qualify for the group stages of course!
Mangala - Get rid now in my opinion because he is so uncomfortable in possession. I think Guardiola will get rid of him as I can't see he'll fit in with the style of play. I agree he has improved but I'd like to see Stones in there and again, bring through some younger talent (English if possible)

Posted - 19/05/2016 : 08:59:29 Got to agree with just about all of that....dont usually agree with somebody else so much
Main ones are
Bony OUT it is like playing with 10 men Yaya - old shire horse whose legs have gone (wow what a fast decline) Zaba - thank you for great service but bye
Keep
KDB superb Aguero enough said Joe Hart getting better every season Fernandinho ditto
Borderline Silva - yes shocking I know but he is in decline this season ok maybe due to injury problems but it may be his last season Managala - give him just a couple of months under Pep to finally sort himeself out Kompany - no room for sentiment nobody is bigger than the club and unless he has a miraculous recovery let him go
Disapointing
Sterling - a total lightweight (maybe ok with Eyuropean refs though) but a mild gust of wind knocks him off the ball 20m not 50m esp when compared to KDB
Thos are the ones at the forefront of my mind.
